We are blessed with some incredible design talent in South Africa and now that online stores are beginning to catch on locally, it makes these designs more accessible than ever.
Here are some of my top online stores for local design.
Love Milo describes itself as a boutique home ware and décor studio, based in Cape Town.
Their designs are inspired by nature and are created using photographs taken of natural elements, making art into functional form.
For increased sustainability, all Love Milo’s wooden products are made using alien trees that are harmful to the natural environment and their inks are eco friendly.
Browse for: Ceramics, lighting, wood and fabric
We love: Their dainty teacups paired with wooden saucers

Inspired by Scandinavian interior design, all the items on Mono Online Shop are black and white in colour for a monochrome look in your home.
What’s cool is that all the photos on the site were styled and taken by owner and founder Petro Vivier (follow her on Twitter here) in her home in Somerset West.

We love: their affordable artwork

Founded in 2011, Green Elephant Collective was likely one of the first e-stores for local design. They believe in products with a design ‘wow!’ factor and aim to spread the message of buying responsibly-made, unique, local goods, instead of mass-imported items from overseas.
Browse for: Crochet cushions, wall art, place mats, clocks, designer cots and more.
We love: The recycled bottle light shades by well-known local artist Heath Nash

With a name based on an old family nickname, this sums up the mother / daughter duo who started a business out of a love for creating. They now have a team and a studio in Woodstock where they do our own sewing, testing, packaging and creating.
They take inspiration from colour, pattern and typography.
Browse for: Accessories, tableware, clothes, greeting cards and more
We love: their simple, funky fabric designs (in everything they do…)
